| A properly maintained septic tank will extended the life of the septic system almost indefinitely. As you can see in the above diagram, only grey water is filtering over into the drain field. The septic system can dispose of thousands of gallons of water a month through the drain field which is designed exclusively to handle grey water. The drain field is not designed to dispose of sludge. The sludge level should never be allowed to reach the outlet tube. | An Infrequently maintained septic tank, as in the above diagram, will result in sludge (carry over) invading the drain field, causing premature system failure and the need for costly replacement. There are absolutely no external warning signs that this damage is taking place until it is too late. This is why it is so important to have your septic tank serviced regularly by a qualified professional. |
